Company History

Karate USA Taekwondo Inc was started by master instructor David Bartow (age 21) in 1989. Mr. Bartow had been training in the martial arts since age 9 and teaching classes since age 12. David opened Karate USA in Roswell, Georgia that same year. In 1991, the 2nd Karate USA was opened in (East) Cobb County and in 1994 the Parkaire studio in Marietta, Georgia was opened.

In 1995 Karate USA was voted BEST martial arts school by the Neighbor Newspapers, ranked in the Top 10 schools in the U.S. by the United States Taekwondo Union and featured on the cover of Atlanta Sports and Fitness Magazine.

During the early 90's Mr. Bartow served on the Executive Board of the Georgia State Taekwondo Association, Chairperson for the sport of Taekwondo at the Georgia Games and led a demo of Taekwondo experts at the 1996 Olympics' Coca Cola City exhibit.

Mr. Bartow founded the Say Yes to Kids Foundation in 1991. The Say Yes to Kids program raised over $50,000 for Scottish Rite Childrens Medical Center and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In 1995, Mr. Bartow opened the Johns Creek studio. Mr. Bartow soon relocated to the Johns Creek area, got married and started teaching at Johns Creek full time. Soon after, Mr. Bartow sold all the other locations to his instructors and concentrated fully on the Johns Creek studio.

Over the next decade, David Bartow and his dedicated staff would build the Johns Creek location to be one of the most successful martial arts studios in the Southeast.

Recently, Karate USA joined 10 local elementary schools in becoming Partners In Education donating time, money, and full scholarships each year to local schools and PTAs based on their individual needs.

In 2008 Karate USA and instructor Kevin Geary opened a new state of the art training facility in Cumming, Georgia next to the Windermere Golf Community. Together, the Johns Creek and Windermere studios serve families in South Forsyth, Cumming, Sugar Hill, Suwanee, Johns Creek, Duluth and Alpharetta.
